WHOOSH!!!
Did you hear that? That was the sound of December whipping by faster than a gust of wind on a blustery Fall day. I must be getting older because never before has Christmas come and gone as quickly as it did this year. I wish I could have taken a few moments to blog here and there, but I couldn't possibly lend a single finger to a keyboard because I needed both hands to hold onto the reins of my life as it galloped full speed ahead. Ok, I know that was a slightly dramatic description, but that is honestly how I felt!
But as crazy as this season has been, it has been really good too. And now that I am sitting here on December 31st, the final hours of both December and the year of 2011 slipping away, I think it's time to reflect on the rich blessings and fun memories that this month has brought us. Here's a quick recap, in poem form :)
My favorite season came in a flash,
and the festivities started off with an ugly sweater bash!
The competition was fierce, but we ended up with the grand prize;
after all that hot gluing, that Santa trophy was like treasure in our eyes!
The babies were sweet and the company a delight,
reminding me that the people I work with make my life bright.
Up went the tree and out came the lights,
the house was aglow and looked simply magical at night.
Ornaments and Christmas carols filled the streets of our city,
What a splendid sight, indeed, how pretty!
Friends came to call and so did my mother,
our weekends were full and fun like none other!
At work the holidays were certainly in full swing,
and students from around the world experienced Christmas activity.
Gingerbread houses and sugar cookies galore,
I don't think I could possibly love my job any more!
Being home for the holidays is always a treat,
and what better to do than go out and eat!
Once with my sister on a sisters night out,
and then again with my parents; we had fun - no doubt!
Not busy enough? Here come's Christmas time!
Boy, it's hard to keep making this poem rhyme!
Laughter, kids, grandma's chex mix, and growing girths,
but most importantly, a joyous celebration of our Savior's birth!
Clap your hands and let your voices raise,
for He deserves all our adoration and praise!
Miles away more family gathered 'round,
and thus began Christmas Part 2, where presents and Starbucks abound.
Then came the 27th and memories were plentiful,
as Bryant and I looked back on our wedding day two years ago...ah, so wonderful!
He is still my partner, my love, my best friend
and I know he'll stand beside me as we venture around all of life's bends.
We celebrated in Portland and gallivanted in the rain,
a perfect way to enjoy each others company and walk down memory lane.
That was December, like I said, it was gone in a flash!
Oh how many times I wished I could make it last!
But that is the beauty of this time of year,
it will come yet again, and with it bring great cheer!
